Annabella, Scarlet Monk's hauntingly introspective album released by Global Vortex Records New York in August 2011, has been remixed by the 7 creative, up and coming fresh remixers worldwide via a remix competition launched by the New Yorker super label. The winners were hand-picked by the Maestra herself, who loved the fact that “these tracks sound like complete songs, not just beats with my voice on top of them.” Even though the tracks were remixed by several amazingly inspired artists (Krts, Vintouch, Marcell Marias, CerebralFX, Paul Maud`Dub, Virgin Magnetic Material and B-Rice) who put their own, unique spin on Monk's deliciously bittersweet songs, the record sounds astonishingly “round” and complete, as if it had been made “in one take” without ever losing its effortless flow. While still preserving Monk's remarkable jazzy edge, this remix record underlines her sultry and expressive voice with a downtempo and break-beat atmosphere that lets the listener escape into that dark but pleasantly soothing place everybody longs for.
